I like the first image the best, there is a very clean feel about..it would be even better if the green thing in the top left corner wasn’t there, but still its cool.
The second is good, and the third is brill..I do some street shots too and it’s always nice if somebody strikes a pose.
I love these three.
I found your blog through your flickr after you added me as a contact.
I’m hoping to make my photography more “full-time” – these portraits are great.
Chris, thank you for your comment. I have to say I was just blown away by your photos (so much so that I posted them on Tumblr – with a link to your flickr and credit of course). That’s where I keep all my photographic gems I find online.
It is so refreshing to see raw photographic talent in Belfast. I can’t help but feel there are one too many egotistic amatuers in this city and as much as I support everyone taking an interest in photography, my experiences with Belfast’s photographic community have always been poor.
I have no doubt in my mind you could do very well making a go at the professional side of photography. I graduated from Uni (the University of the Arts London) in July 2008, armed with a degree in photography and a lot of ambition but I was equally as scared. I soon discovered that my ambition was the main factor in helping me and I’ve managed to, ever since graduating, work entirely freelance (full time) as a photographer. Granted I haven’t really been living in Belfast – I’m here now, but I have spent most of my time in the USA, where I’m still trying to relocate to permanantly.
Sorry to ramble, I’m sure you aren’t interested in me basically telling my life story, but I really want to encourage you because your work is some of the strongest I’ve seen come out of N.Ireland.
I’m taking on the daunting task of being a solo curator for a show in Belfast sometime next year, I’d be very interested in including your work if you’d be interested? If you are, let me know and then closer to the time I can let you know the details.
I’m have a solo show/book launch in the new year in London but I’m hoping to bring it over to Belfast at some stage. I had a solo show in Belfast almost two years ago and it was great fun, it was in the Black Box so I really enjoyed the venue.
So, anyway, feel free to come along and we could discuss it further.
PS – I think I sounded a bit pretentious there, I didn’t mean to. I know you are experienced too with exhibitions and stuff and that’s exactly why I got excited that I’ve found a fellow Northern Irish photographer whose work I really appreciate on many levels. A rarity for me.
Thanks Sarah.
I’d be very interested in showing more work next year also, so keep in touch regarding that.
I’m also keen to get to the states sometime to add to my portfolio – I think shots from overseas may sell well in Ireland, but the Irish shots may actually sell well in USA. I’m quite keen to shoot in NYC, Oregon and Washington State. Money is the big hurdle however.
I currently have an exhibition at La Boca Restaurant in Fountain Street, Belfast that is open until Nov 7th, and this is my first ever show – it opened on October 20th.
I’m familiar with Black Box, but haven’t been in to see anything. When would your next exhibition be?
