Retail Series, continuing…

I’m very pleased to have shot a whole new batch of images as a part of an on-going series I’ve been working on for four years now.

The ‘Retail’ series (originally titled ‘American Retail’ and still very much subject to change), was something I started on a whim with a disposable camera inside a Lake Buena Vista, Florida, grocery store. It has since developed into a series of images, all very similar (but then that’s the point or part of it at least), shot in everything from Large Format to Digital, disposables, 35mm, holga and good old Medium Format in between. Taken all over Florida, in Texas, New York, New Jersey. Well, now I’ve come back to the UK (for now) and decided to expand this on-going project. Last year I sold a set of limited edition, unique C-Type prints from this series and got some nice response that spurred me on.

I’m an on-going project kind of girl. This is one of three, perhaps four, on-going photographic projects I have. Some I don’t know if I’ll ever complete and although I’m a girl who likes to tie up all the loose ends, some projects I just can’t do that with. This is one of those projects. It’s probably boring to many already, but I’m not bored yet so I’ll keep going until I am. I think it’s productive though for all artists to leave work open to be continued, it’s fun and encouraging.

So, check back very shortly for the first full set from ‘British Retail’. The blog will be the first place I post them and I might start testing print types and sizes for a small solo show of this series. I just have to finish my artists statement.

In the meantime here are a select few of my favourites from the ‘American Retail’ installation.

It’s about time I got my ‘artist’ self back, she’d been in ahiding for a while.
